Easy Crochet Blankets

One of the things I like to do is crochet, especially for babies.  I made this blanket for one of my grandsons.  It is just random stripes. When I had finished doing the crochet part  I didn't like how loose it was and I thought that little fingers could get stuck in the crochet so I chose to back it with flannel. It was somewhat difficult to keep the crochet straight when attaching the backing but in the end turned out well and has stood up to a lot of use and washings. The blanket is still not too heavy but it is warm.

I made another one in green and brown when a little brother came along.

These blankets are a simple double crochet and can be made any size just by changing the number of chains in your starting row and the number of rows. There is no need for a pattern. I used grosgrain ribbon as a decorative touch on the top where the backing is sewn on.

There are many tutorials for a double crochet stitch here is one link:http://crochet.about.com/od/learntocrochet/ss/DoubleCrochet_2.htm

This is such an easy thing to do for a beginning crochet project!

  1. I think the flannel backing has made the blankets way sturdier and helped them to keep their shape better as well.

    They are well-loved!
