One more Quiet Book Page

Quiet book airplane

When I found out my grandson was going to be here for his third birthday I knew I wanted to add a few pages to the quiet book I had made him last Christmas. The small details make this quite time consuming and I wondered if I would find the time but am so happy I did.
I had been looking at quiet book ideas  and liked the ones I saw with airplanes and thought it would be nice to relate it to his trip here.

They were traveling by Westjet so I took a picture of the "Westjet Bump and Go Airplane" toy, sized it to fit my page and added details  to make it personal.

Pictures printed on fabric
Levi liked seeing himself as the pilot
The luggage, luggage cart and Pilot were all printed with this:

I bought this package at fabric land.  It is easy if you have an inkjet printer, although you have to be careful how you load it to avoid bleeding. There are tutorials online to print on your own fabric . I would like to try it.

"Quiet Book" luggage cart

I took a picture of a luggage cart, stretched it to fit my page in photoshop and sewed a piece of velcro to the bed of it to hold the luggage.

"Quiet Book" Luggage

To plain generic pictures of luggage I added flags of places my grandson has been (e.g: Scotland, Italy, Spain). I could have added Germany, Morocco and more but there was only so much room and time. I added a backpack to the luggage because that is what my kids use when they travel the world.

"Quiet Book" Airplane with luggage compartments

The luggage compartments on the plane close with snaps which have small buttons sewn on the front for esthetics.

Levi seemed to like this and enjoyed moving the suitcases back and forth from plane to cart.

This was a fun page to do.

"Flower" Crochet Cushion

Crochet "flower" pillow

It's been a while since I blogged again but I have been busy with a few projects and couldn't share them immediately as they were gifts. Now that the parties are over and the gifts have been given I will share in the next few posts what I have been up to.

Ever since I saw this blog:

I have wanted to try to make one of these pillows, The site has a good tutorial to follow. It looks more complicated than it is.

This is what I came up with for my daughter's bed using the colours in her room.

purple and brown crochet pillow

I like the rainbow colour and the brown and purple but would like to try this in "ombre" colours. Maybe that will be next.

What are you making?

Excited for Baby!

With  news of  another grandchild due in June my mind is busy pondering what I should make for the new little one. I always make some large reversible flannel blankets for snuggling the newborns and they have seemed very useful. My daughter wrote a tutorial for doing this here .

This is her finished
blanket!

I like to crochet one or two blankets as well and  possibly sew a quilt for the new little one. It sounds like I need to get busy.

As I was looking online for patterns I found a couple of nice ones but they are only for girls so as I don't know what gender the baby will be I need to keep looking . Here are the ones I downloaded today:

free pattern

This one is made of organic cotton. I really like to use cotton as the blankets seem to get softer with age.

Here   is the pattern I used a couple of times. It is so fast and easy because it is basically small granny squares! This would be good for a first crochet project.

My versions:
Ruffled border for the girl blanket

Brown and Blue with border

Both my blankets were done in cotton.

This is the quilt I made for my last granddaughter:

Textured baby quilt

I had this flannel fabric for a long time and finally found different fabrics to match the colors. The yellow is a heavy cotton rib, the blue is a minky, the pink is a soft pile and the green is cotton flannel. I washed them all before sewing  to prevent puckering later.

It looks like I am thinking this baby might be a girl but I'm really not. I will definitely make something neutral or both and save the wrong one for later.

Making things for a baby is the best !

More Crocheted Bags

As promised here are the rest of the bags I crocheted to go with the handles I had purchased.

Large flower crochet bag

Colourful stripes crochet bag

I used this pattern:  crochet bag pattern

I made my stripes a little different from the pattern. It really doesn't matter what colors you use or how many rows you make of one color so it would be a good project for using up wool scraps.

For both of these bags I used patons classic wool and felted it as in the" intarsia" crochet bag on another post.  I also did not leave it flat but brought in the sides and tacked them . The bags still fully open and hold a lot.

The flowers are made without a real pattern but there are many good links to patterns here.

The final bag was completely different as the handles I found were more unique:

Black and white crochet bag
The pattern for this bag is found  here

This bag was crocheted out of nylon so has a completely different feel.

All the bags are fully lined and a piece of plastic was inserted in the bottom between the lining and the outside in the black and white  one so that it would stand up straight.

I am sorry I didn't take a picture of the inside of the bags. The black and white one has a black and white striped ticking as lining.

All of these are fun to make. Happy Crocheting!

Felted Intarsia Crochet

A couple of years I go I was at Fabricland and found several purse handles on a very good sale and since it is hard for me to resist a real bargain I bought four, planning at some point to make my daughter and three daughters-in-law bags for Christmas.

I really wanted to try some things I had never done before and "Intarsia crochet" was new to me and I also wanted to do some felting. I found this pattern at:ravelry.com/patterns//viktoria-purse. I used: patons yarns classic wool .

It did take me a while to make and I seemed to have a little trouble keeping count of stitches so did a bit of taking out in the process but I am satisfied with the end result . I will try other patterns like this.

I lined the bag and attached the handles with grosgrain ribbon sewn  between the lining and the outside

There are many tutorials for bag lining online here is one:simple-lining-tutorial

There are many instructions for felting wool. Here is a link: easy felting tutorial

I will share the other three bags I made on another post.
